Metronidazole 400mg tablets are antibiotics. Bacterial vaginosis is known to cause a change in the natural balance of bacteria living in the vagina. Metronidazole kills some of the extra bacteria that occur in BV and returns the balance of bacteria to normal. Metronidazole tablets may still be used for treating recurring bacterial vaginosis since it's not uncommon for BV to recur within three months after treatment.

How Does metronidazole Work?

Bacterial vaginosis is a vaginal infection caused by an overgrowth of certain bacteria in the vagina and causes abnormal vaginal discharge and an unpleasant odour. Metronidazole 400mg Tablets is an antibiotic that is prescribed to treat bacterial vaginosis. It works by killing the bacteria that cause the infection. It is important to take all of the Metronidazole 400mg. It does this by stopping the production of DNA and proteins which are essential for the bacteria to survive. Metronidazole 400mg Tablets also stop the bacteria from multiplying, so they are unable to infect more cells. This means that the infection can be cleared up and does not have a chance to spread. Tablets prescribed, even if you start feeling better, to ensure that the infection is completely cured. If you stop taking the medication before it is gone, the infection may reoccur. Metronidazole 400mg Tablets can also be used to prevent infections after certain gynaecological procedures.

  • The usual dosage for adults is one tablet twice per day for seven days. Swallow the tablet whole without crushing or chewing.
  • Take the tablet by mouth with a glass of water.

  • Continue taking Metronidazole 400mg Tablets for the full course of treatment, even if you feel better sooner. This will help to clear up your infection completely.
