NHS Services at Murrays Chemist – Harrow’s Trusted NHS Pharmacy

At Murrays Chemist, we are proud to deliver a wide range of NHS-funded healthcare services to the local community in Harrow and North West London. As your local NHS pharmacy, we provide accessible, high-quality clinical care without the need for a GP appointment in many cases.

All services listed below are commissioned and funded by the NHS. However, please be aware that they are subject to national eligibility criteria and clinical assessment. Where applicable, NHS prescription charges may apply unless the patient is medically exempt.

NHS Oral Contraception Service

Our pharmacists can provide repeat oral contraception (including both combined and progestogen-only pills) under the NHS Contraception Service. This free, confidential service is available to eligible patients and includes clinical review, ongoing supply, and referrals where needed.

NHS Blood Pressure Check (Hypertension Case-Finding Service)

We offer free NHS blood pressure checks for adults aged 40 and over without a prior diagnosis of hypertension. If raised readings are detected, we may offer ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) and follow-up to support diagnosis and management in line with national guidance.

NHS Pharmacy First Service – Minor Ailments Treatment

As part of the Pharmacy First scheme, eligible patients can receive assessment and treatment for common conditions directly from our pharmacy, without needing to see a GP. Conditions include:

  • Earache (ages 1–17)

  • Impetigo (ages 1+)

  • Infected insect bites (ages 1+)

  • Shingles (ages 18+)

  • Sinusitis (ages 12+)

  • Sore throat (ages 5+)

  • Uncomplicated urinary tract infections (UTIs) in women aged 16–64

This service may include NHS-supplied medicines where criteria are met. If the condition does not qualify under the scheme or if over-the-counter treatments are recommended, standard retail charges will apply.

NHS COVID-19 Vaccination Service

We are a registered NHS vaccination site for the seasonal COVID-19 vaccination programme. Eligible patients can book their appointments via the NHS website or by contacting our pharmacy directly.

NHS Pneumococcal Vaccination (Pneumonia Vaccine)

We provide NHS pneumococcal vaccinations to eligible patients, including those aged over 65 and individuals with qualifying health conditions. This helps protect against serious infections such as pneumonia and meningitis.

NHS Flu Vaccination Service

Each autumn and winter, we deliver free NHS flu jabs to eligible groups including over-65s, those with chronic health conditions, pregnant women, and frontline health workers. Walk-ins and bookings are available.

NHS Prescription Dispensing in Harrow

We dispense all NHS prescriptions, including those received electronically from local GP surgeries. Our dispensing team ensures safe, efficient, and timely medication supply.

Free NHS Prescription Delivery (Eligibility-Based)

We offer free delivery of NHS prescriptions to housebound and vulnerable patients, subject to eligibility. Please speak to our team for assessment and registration.

NHS Dosette Boxes / Monitored Dosage Systems (MDS)

For patients managing multiple medications or with complex regimens, we offer NHS dosette boxes following a suitability assessment. These are particularly helpful for elderly patients and carers.

24-Hour Prescription Collection Point

Our automated collection locker allows you to pick up your repeat prescriptions 24/7, even when the pharmacy is closed. This service is ideal for patients with busy or irregular schedules.
