What Is Zidoval Vaginal Gel?

Zidoval Vaginal Gel is an antibacterial gel for treating a variety of infections such as Bacterial Vaginosis, and Trichomoniasis.   The drug works by killing excess bacteria in the vagina to relieve the burning pain. The treatment takes up to 7 days, although the patient feels better within the first few days of applying Zidoval Vaginal Gel.

Description

How Does Zidoval Vaginal Gel Work? Common bacterial infections occur when there is an imbalance of the PH of the environment. For instance, changes in the vaginal PH causes trichomoniasis, while changes in PH of the mouth cause tooth infections.  Metronidazole works by killing the excess bacteria that cause the imbalance. It returns the environment to normal, thus eliminating tooth pain, vaginal itching, and an odour that comes with the infections.

Warnings

Warnings for Metronidazole

Patients with the conditions below should avoid Metronidazole:

  • If you have or have ever had a liver problem.
  • If you are having kidney dialysis.
  • If you suffer from a disease of the nervous system.
  • If you are pregnant, planning to be pregnant, or breastfeeding.
  • If you are on other medication.

Tell your doctor if you are scheduled for surgery, including dental surgery, before taking Metronidazole.

Directions

For vaginal administration Adults: Insert one application of Zidoval vaginal gel (5g) into the vagina once every day, at bedtime. Do this for 5 consecutive days. Elderly: Bacterial vaginosis is not so common in elderly people.  No clinical assessment in this age group has been done yet. Pediatric population: You should not use this gel in children and adolescents below the age of 18. Its safety and efficacy in children have not been established.

Ingredients

Ingredients:

  • Metronidazole 0.75% w/w, 7.5 mg/g
  • Excipients with known effect:
  • Methyl parahydroxybenzoate (E218) 0.8 mg/g
  • Propyl parahydroxybenzoate (E216) 0,2 mg/g
  • Propylene glycol (E1520) 30.0 mg/g.

Side Effects

The side effects include:

  • Vaginal candidiasis
  • Decreased appetite
  • Depression, difficulty sleeping
  • Headache, dizziness
  • Paraesthesia, hypoesthesia, dysgeusia (metallic taste)
  • GI discomfort/abdominal cramps, vomiting, unpleasant taste/unusual feeling on tongue
  • Diarrhoea, constipation, abdominal bloating/noises, nausea, dry mouth
  • Dry skin, erythema, pruritus, skin discomfort (burning, pain of skin/stinging), skin irritation
  • Vaginal itching/irritation/burning/numbness, pelvic discomfort, vaginal discharge
  • Fatigue, irritability
