What is Athletes Foot?

You know if you have athlete’s foot if you have itches patches of white skin often between the toes. The skin can peel away and the skin my split or blister. Athlete’s foot can be itchy, sore and very uncomfortable.
Athletes foot can affect any skin on your feet and if left untreated, result in a fungal nail infection as well.
What athletes foot treatments can I use?
The first thing to do is to look after your feet:
- Keep your feet clean and dry and always dry your feet after a shower or bath, preferably with a separate towel.
- Regularly change your socks and choose cotton socks instead of polyester.
- Take your shoes off when you can to let your feet “breathe”.
There are several treatments you can buy for athlete’s foot too. A visit to Murrays Pharmacy in Harrow will allow us to help you choose the right treatment option for you.
Treatments include powders, creams and sprays. The pharmacists may recommend a simple antifungal treatment. However, if your condition is particularly inflamed, a steroid cream might be advised too.
Some treatments are available as over the counter medication whilst others are only on prescription.
If your itchy skin is not fungal, the pharmacist may refer you to your GP.
