Bacterial Vaginosis

Bacterial Vaginosis Treatment at Murrays Chemist

What is Bacterial Vaginosis?

Bacterial Vaginosis (BV) is a common vaginal infection that occurs when there is an imbalance of bacteria in the vagina. While BV is not classified as a sexually transmitted infection (STI), it can increase the risk of contracting STIs such as chlamydia. BV can be uncomfortable and cause symptoms such as unusual vaginal discharge with a strong fishy smell, itching, and irritation.

Symptoms of Bacterial Vaginosis

Common symptoms of BV include:

  • Thin, watery, grey or white vaginal discharge
  • A strong, unpleasant (fishy) odor, especially after sex
  • Mild irritation or itching around the vagina
  • Burning sensation during urination (in some cases)

Many cases of BV do not cause noticeable symptoms, but it is still important to seek treatment to prevent complications.

Tests We Offer

To confirm the diagnosis and rule out other infections, we offer:

  • N. gonorrhoeae
  • Chlamydia Trachomatis
  • CT/NG combined test
  • Mycoplasma Genitalium
  • Ureaplasma Urealyticum
  • Trichomonas Vaginalis
  • Gardnerella Vaginalis
  • Herpes Simplex I/II
